Romain de Waubert, co-founder of Amplitude Studios with Mathieu Girard, revealed a while ago the story behind Dungeon of the Endless (I love the story, and I’m proud to say it’s all true) : “That game was never planned, it was just a love story between a concept and a bunch of drunk designers. […] After spending secretly the whole week-end on it , we already had a game design overview and a prototype when we were back on Monday. We presented that to [the CEO] AmpliMath who loved it right away, and although it was not planned at all, he agreed to hire some very talented guys to help us do it. Never in my life have I had the chance to have a game in full production in such short notice after the original idea.”
Dungeon of the Endless is a retro-styled Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense game, mixing 2D pixel art with 3D graphics, in which the player and his team of heroes must protect the generator of their crashed ship while exploring an ever-expanding dungeon, all while facing waves of monsters and special events as they try to find their way out.
The game, while still in early access on Steam, has been very well received. Amplitude just released this great trailer, full of inside jokes (I caught a few, but I’m pretty sure there are many more).
